This is a call to action to break the cycle of garbage dumping through community cleanups, awareness campaigns, and collective responsibility for a cleaner, greener future

# :put_litter_in_its_place: Breaking the Cycle of Garbage Dumping: A Call for Action :earth_africa:

:raising_hand_man: Meet Me:

Hi! I’m Lakshay Behal, a passionate changemaker, Swachhata Saathi, Solve Ninja, and student leader on a mission to create a cleaner, greener community. :seedling::sparkles:

I am pursuing BCA at Doaba College, Jalandhar and proudly serve as Class Representative, Joint Secretary (Student Relations), and Student Council Member (Discipline). From fixing black spots to participating in environmental campaigns, I am committed to tackling one of the biggest urban challenges—garbage mismanagement. :cityscape::recycle:

:warning: The Problem: Why Do Garbage Dumps Keep Growing?

Despite municipal workers’ efforts, certain areas repeatedly turn into waste dumping hotspots. But why?

:do_not_litter: Is it solely the municipal workers’ fault for not cleaning up?
:do_not_litter: Do people throw garbage just because they see existing waste?
:do_not_litter: Do they know it’s wrong but still do it anyway?

These questions troubled me and my fellow Solve Ninja, Vabek Sroya, as we investigated black spots in different locations. The reality was shocking—many people knew their actions were wrong but continued throwing garbage anyway! Some even admitted, “Everyone does it, so why not me?” :disappointed:

:star2: Impact Story: Taking Action to Clean & Educate

To break this cycle, my team and I fixed some of the worst black spots in our city and out of city also:

:round_pushpin: Opposite Kamal Hospital , Front of Boys’ Hostel, Doaba College
:round_pushpin: Opposite Devi Talab Mandir ,In front of Doaba College, Jalandhar
:round_pushpin: Jagraon Bus Stand, Ludhiana

:construction: Challenges We Faced:

:mag: Finding out why these spots turned into garbage dumps.
:loudspeaker: Confronting people and questioning their mindset.
:warning: Dealing with resistance from those who didn’t want to change.

Despite these challenges, we pushed forward. When Vabek and I questioned people, we also warned them about fines for littering. It was not just about cleaning; it was about changing mindsets! :brain::sparkles:

:mega: Call to Action: What We Did & How You Can Help!

:loudspeaker: Public Awareness Campaign:
I led a campaign near Devi Talab Mandir with my amazing team (Palak Sharma, Rahul, Armaan Singh, Arpana, and Hardik Singh). :classical_building::sparkles: We used charts, posters, and direct conversations to educate people about the importance of cleanliness, especially around religious and educational institutions.

:memo: Survey & Research for Solutions:
In an Eco Club meeting, we surveyed people near Devi Talab Mandir and Doaba College to understand waste disposal habits. The results helped us plan sustainable solutions, proving that awareness and action go hand in hand. :handshake::recycle:
