Hello everyone!
My name is Sukhmanpreet Kaur and I am a Solve Ninja who loves to tackle environmental issues. With this post, I would like to share my journey of how I have implemented a Plastic free event in my govt. school!. I recently implemented the DISS plan (Discover, Investigation, Solve, Share) in my school to make an event plastic-free, and I’d love to share my journey with you all.
D – Discover
Our teachers were planning a Paath (religious event) in school. During the preparations, I realized that if we used disposable plates and glasses for the Langar, it would harm our environment and create unnecessary plastic waste.
I – Investigation
I observed how disposable utensils had been used in past events and how it created a lot of garbage. I also noticed that steel utensils were available in our local Gurdwara. I discussed the issue with my teachers and explained how using steel utensils could make our event eco-friendly.
S – Solve
Thankfully, my teachers supported my idea. I took full responsibility for organizing the utensils. A group of students helped bring steel utensils from the Gurdwara a day before the event. I assigned duties to clean them and made sure everything was ready.
On the day of the Paath, we served Langar in steel utensils and cleaned everything afterward with the help of my team. It was hard work, but it felt amazing to take action for a plastic-free world.
S – Share
This was our first plastic-free event in school, and I feel incredibly proud. By taking small steps and working together, we proved that change is possible. Through this platform, I hope to inspire many more students around the world to take bold actions for a better planet.
Let’s keep solving problems, one step at a time. ![]()
